The 2022 schedule for the Robert Morris volleyball team was announced Tuesday morning.

After a coaching change midway through last season, head coach Danny Doherty will enter his first full year at the helm of the Colonials after serving as an assistant.

At first glance, the Colonials will be on the road for most of 2022, with 19 of their 30 matches away from the UPMC Events Center.

After facing West Virginia in Morgantown last season, the Mountaineers will come to Moon Township for a preseason exhibition on Aug. 19 before the season begins on the 26th with the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where they will face Kent State. They will also have a doubleheader the next day against James Madison at 10 a.m. and Albany at 4 p.m.

The Chick-fil-A Robinson Labor Day Volleyball Classic returns to the UPMC Events Center this year as the Colonials will host William & Mary and Canisius in a doubleheader on Sep. 2.

The Colonials will head downtown to face Duquesne the following afternoon.

RMU will be on the road again to be a part of the Morehead State Comfort Inn invitational in Kentucky the following weekend to face North Alabama and Morehead State on Friday and Quinnipiac on Saturday.

The last invitational tournament will be in Buies Creek, NC, in the Fairfield Inn and Suites Dunn Campbell Invitational. The Colonials will play another doubleheader Friday, beginning with North Carolina Central and the hosts Campbell later in the day and the Citadel the next day.

Horizon League play will follow the next Tuesday, playing in a home game for the first time in almost two and a half weeks against Oakland before another two-game road trip, starting in Green Bay, then Milwaukee on the 23rd and 25th of September.

The Colonials will have a three-game homestand, tied for their longest season, starting on Sep. 27 against Cleveland State, Sep. 30 vs. Purdue Fort Wayne, and Oct. 1 against IUPUI.

Next, they will have their longest season road trip, starting on Oct. 7 against Youngstown State. RMU will continue the road trip in Dayton on Oct. 13 to face Wright State and Northern Kentucky on Oct. 14.

Milwaukee and Green Bay will have their turn to face the Colonials again, this time on the road on Oct. 21 and 22.

Another three-game road swing will stand in the Colonials’ way as they will match up against IUPUI, Purdue Fort Wayne, and Oakland before concluding the season at home for their last three games against Youngstown State, Northern Kentucky, and senior day against Wright State on Nov. 12.

The team looks to improve from last year’s last-place Horizon League finish, with Danny Doherty now leading the team.
