On Friday, Nicole Sleith (Schaffer) further cemented her legacy as not only one of the best (if not the best) pitchers in RMU softball history, but the best in Northeast Conference history as well, as the former Colonial was named to the NEC’s softball Mount Rushmore team.

Sleith was the only non-Long Island athlete to make the team, making it alongside Bianca Mejia, Blaire Porter and Lesley Renninger, all of whom attended LIU.

Sleith, who came to Robert Morris from Yough High School in Westmoreland County, parlayed excellent high school success into one of the most dominant pitchers the Colonials had ever seen, pitching at the school from 2012-15. Not only does she hold numerous RMU program records, but picked up several conference and national accolades as well during her time at the school.

She was NEC Pitcher of the Year three times (2012, 2013, 2015), the 2012 NEC Rookie of the Year, was All-NEC First Team three times (’12, ’13, ’15) and was a 4x NFCA All-Region honoree. You can find her name scattered throughout the top in almost every pitching statistic. In her final season, she fanned 296 batters, which is tied for first in NEC history.

Sleith saved the best for the penultimate start of her career, tossing an impressive 76-pitch perfect game in the 2015 NEC Tournament against Fairleigh Dickinson, one of multiple no-hit games she pitched at RMU.

Sleith finished her career with a scarce 1.70 ERA, 932 strikeouts and 78 wins, the last two of which are Colonials career records. Sleith currently works as a volunteer assistant at Duke.
