Robert Morris forward Matt Mayers is the second member of the men’s basketball team to enter the transfer portal as he entered his name on Tuesday.

Mayers was the sixth man off the bench to start the season, saw his role decrease as Horizon League play continued throughout the season. His role was slowly overtaken by Trey James and Chris Ford.

The Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y. native came into the program last season, played in all 32 games last year, and got the start in 23 of those games. He averaged six points per game but took efficient shots as he shot 63 percent from the field and went four-for-nine from beyond the arc.

This season was a different story. Mayers solely came off the bench and then lost all playing time as James recovered from his preseason injury and Chris Ford became another depth option from off the bench.

He played in 22 contests this season and posted five points per game but was efficient from the floor again. He shot 63 percent from the floor and made one three-pointer in three attempts. He also averaged three-point four rebounds a game as well.

Mayers transferred into the Robert Morris program after spending the fist two seasons of his collegiate career at Hutchinson Community College.

He will have one year of eligibility remaining after completing his senior season this year.
