Senior Dana Vatakis earned her second Horizon League Pitcher of the Week honor on Tuesday after her performances over the weekend against IUPUI.

Vatakis got the start in game one, her 11th of the season, and pitched six solid innings. She allowed just one run on three hits while striking out eight.

This earned Vatakis her sixth win of the season, improving her record to 6-4 and dropping her ERA to 3.91.

Vatakis made an important appearance in the series finale on Sunday after starter Jane Garver pitched five scoreless innings.

Vatakis came into the game in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and no outs. She forced a quick double play followed by a strikeout, allowing zero runs and working her way out of the jam.

She went on to complete the game, pitching a scoreless seventh inning to give RMU the win and earning Vatakis her second save of the season.

That save was also RMU’s sixth total save, which set a new single-season saves record, surpassing their previous total of five.

Weather permitting, the Colonials will continue their march through Horizon League play on Friday, kicking off a three-game series at home against Purdue Fort Wayne.
