On Friday, it was announced via Syracuse on Instagram that Arielle DeSmet, rising senior and former Robert Morris women’s hockey goaltender has transferred to Syracuse University along with former RMU recruit Sarah Marchand. This brings the total number of former RMU hockey players that have found new homes up to ten.

DeSmet told Colonial Sports Network that she had entered the transfer portal as soon as she heard the news that the programs would be discontinued. This was the second time the goaltender had entered the portal, and now she finally settles at Syracuse.

In her three seasons at RMU, DeSmet battled with both Lauren Bailey and Raygan Kirk for the starting spot. She started in 31 total games and finished her RMU career with every season having a save percentage north of .900.

With standout goaltender for the Orange Allison Small coming back for another season the duo of DeSmet and Small will be nearly unstoppable in the CHA.

While never playing a game for the Colonials, Sarah Marchand was an incoming recruit for the team. She is set to enter her freshman season with the Orange coming off a 30 point season with the Southwest Wildcats of the PWHL. A native of Belle River Ontario, Marchand served as a solid playmaking forward and looks to earn a roster spot with Syracuse this upcoming season.

With ten total members of the RMU women’s hockey team finding new homes including the three that were drafted into the NWHL, these athletes have found new homes, but many more names remain such as Michaela Boyle, Kyleigh Hanzlik, or any more members of the men’s hockey team as only Bradley Stonnell (Wisconsin Superior) has transferred thus far.
