MOON TOWNSHIP — After two seasons of overseeing the Robert Morris women’s hockey program, director of hockey operations Liam Cavanagh has announced that he is leaving the team.

Cavanagh revealed his departure via Twitter early Monday morning. In his tweet, Cavanagh thanked RMU women’s hockey for “giving me the chance to be a part of your amazing family over the years.”

Cavanagh now retains his current title, but will head westward to Boulder, CO, to join the staff of the Boulder Bison, a mixed-age range youth hockey organization that fields teams under USA Hockey at the Midget, Bantam, PeeWee and Squirt levels for boys at its main structure and several programs including 19U for girls.

Cavanagh graduated from RMU this year with a master’s in Organizational Leadership, with a focus on non-profit leadership and data analytics. Before coming to Robert Morris, he previously served as director of hockey operations for the D3 UMass Boston Beacons men’s hockey program from 2015-2017. In 2017, he also graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing and has been seen as a trailblazer in making strides for improving mental health and the well being of hockey players in and out of the classroom.
