MOON TOWNSHIP — The RMU men’s hockey team (9-18-1, 8-13-1 AHC) travels to the Hart Center in Worcester, Massachusetts this weekend for a two-game set at AHC opponent Holy Cross (7-17-4, 7-12-1 AHC). The teams split the series in their last meeting on December 7 and 8.

Recapping RMU

RMU heads to Worcester on a major skid, having lost their last five contests. Last weekend, they struggled in a series at home against Sacred Heart (12-13-3, 11-9-2 AHC) where they lost 6-2 in the first game and 3-1 in the second game. Three different players had two points in the series. Their last win was a 7-2 triumph over Canisius on January 18. They will look to snap this losing streak this weekend.

Scouting Holy Cross

Holy Cross faces the Colonials fresh off of a split at division opponent RIT (13-12-3, 11-8-3 AHC). In game one, they lost 4-3, but won by the same score in game two. Michael Laffin led the way with two goals and an assist for three points over the series. They will face the Colonials hoping to start a win streak.

Players to watch

Luke Lynch (RMU): This weekend, keep an eye on Pittsburgh native Luke Lynch. Lynch picked up a goal and an assist during the Sacred Heart series and continues to capitalize on his opportunities. This season, he has seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points on the campaign, good for second on the Colonials’ roster.

Aidan Spellacy (RMU): Spellacy is also a player to look out for at Holy Cross. During the Sacred Heart series, he also picked up a goal and an assist. This season, he has four goals and three assists for seven points on the season. He also has a .211 shooting percentage, the highest on the Colonials’ roster.

Peter Crinella (HCU): Crinella has been on a hot streak as of late. In his last four games, Crinella has put up six points (two goals, four assists) and continues to be a contributor on offense. This season, he has seven goals and eight assists for 15 points.

Johnny Coughlin (HCU): Coughlin is certainly the most intriguing name on the roster for Holy Cross. The senior defenseman leads the Crusaders in points with 19 and continues to move the puck well, as evidenced by his 12 assists to this point. Keep an eye out for Coughlin manning the point for the Crusaders.

Prediction

The Colonials will lose both games in this series, but they will be close. They have struggled over their last five, and Holy Cross will capitalize on this, winning the first game 3-2 and the second game 5-3.
