It’s rebound week at Robert Morris as women’s soccer matches up against IUPUI following their loss against Northern Kentucky last week.
The Colonial’s four-game unbeaten run was ended last weekend after an early goal from the Norse left RMU having to claw back, a task they were unwilling to accomplish.
But it’s a new week, and this Saturday offers the Colonials a chance to separate themselves from the pack in the Horizon League as conference playoffs loom.
The Colonials sit third in league standings with 13 points, 7 points behind leaders Milwaukee and one point behind Wright State in second. More intriguingly, though, Robert Morris is tied on points with Oakland and IUPUI, so a lot is on the line on Saturday.
If Robert Morris wants to distance themselves though, they must stop conceding first. More often than not, the Colonials have seen the game’s opening goal go in their net, including their last two games. And while their effort to come back is appreciated and has led to good results, it’s not good enough to take them to their end goals or far in the league tournament.
The best way to stop this streak looks to be shutting down IUPUI’s top goal scorer, freshman forward Caroline Kelly. Kelly currently sits at six goals and two assists on the season, with 14 points overall, and has started in all 16 of the Jaguars’ games.
Accompanying her are fellow forwards and seniors Emma Antonie and Sam Slimak. Antonie, who leads the Jaguars with eight assists, is the point leader for IUPUI this season with 18. She and Slimak are currently tied with five goals.
IUPUI is coming off a 2-2 draw with Milwaukee last Sunday and a loss to Oakland three days prior, so they are also in the hunt for a much-needed win for separation from the group.
