The Colonials took on Alliance Saturday afternoon in their first exhibition matchup of the year, 88-59.

Josh Corbin led the Colonials with 27 points, following Kahliel Spear with 16.

The Colonials started the contest with a 10-4 lead and kept the lead throughout the game. They had led the game with their rebounds and turnovers early.

Coach Andy Toole spoke on some areas where the Colonials performed well during the game but also areas that need improvement before the season starts.

“Obviously, our lines did a great job, and they competed for 40 minutes, and they were tough and scrappy and aggressive. It exposed some areas we need to improve in, and that’s exactly what you want to have this early in exhibition-type games,” said Toole.

The Colonial defense had 23 turnovers against Alliance but turned the ball over a few times on offense.

“There are some things we need to clean up; far too many turnovers.” Coach Toole said. “There were times we were casual with the basketball. We have to do a better job in that regard.”

Freshman TJ Wainwright had his first appearance as a Colonial in the second half of the exhibition. Joining the team in April of 2022, he looks to make an impact this season and adjust to Horizon League play.

The Colonials will start the season against Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center.
