College basketball is right around the corner, and as a result the Horizon League has just released its preseason poll and all-league teams Wednesday.

Robert Morris came in ranking eighth with graduate forward Kahleil Spear represented the Colonials on the All-League Second Team.

The Colonials are coming off a ninth-place finish in the Horizon League last season after an in-conference record of 5-16 and an overall record of 8-24.

Cleveland State and Northern Kentucky come into the season tied for the number one spot in the rankings. Last year Cleveland State tied for the regular season championship with Purdue Fort Wayne.

Last year’s tournament champion, Wright State, comes into the season ranked third, followed by Oakland, Youngstown State, Detroit Mercy, and Cleveland State.

RMU files in next, followed by Milwaukee, Green Bay, and the poll rounds out with IUPUI.

The Colonials have reasons to be optimistic with their team returning four of the top five point scorers from last season.

The team will be paced by junior guard Enoch Cheeks, senior guard Michael Green III and most importantly Kahliel Spear.

Spear was named to the Horizon League Preseason Second Team after a career year in 2021. Last season he led the Colonials in scoring (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg).
