MOON TOWNSHIP, PA– After the men’s basketball program was shut down due to coronavirus concerns on November 19, the Robert Morris Athletic Department announced changes to the schedule including the postponement of the season opener against Point Park, as well as the cancellation of games against Central Michigan and Florida Gulf Coast, with the latter two games being moved to next season.

When Robert Morris returned to practice on Wednesday, they canceled their non-conference matchup against Saint Francis University. We now have some clarity on why that decision was made.

Late Thursday evening, it was announced that the Colonials will host Point Park on Saturday night at the UPMC Events Center at 6:00 p.m to finally kick off their 2020-21 campaign.

“When the opportunity arose to add a non-conference game to our schedule and open the season with a home game at the UPMC Events Center, as a staff we wanted to take advantage,” head men’s basketball coach Andy Toole told RMU Athletics.

This is just the second meeting between the two schools. RMU lost their only other contest to the Pioneers by a score of 84-65 on February 20, 1978. That year marked just the second season for the Colonials competing as an NCAA Division I program.

This should be a good matchup for the Colonials to tip off the season, as less than a week later RMU will travel to Morgantown to face #11 West Virginia (3-1) on Wednesday, December 9.
