After opening the season this past weekend with two games at the North Athletic Complex, the men’s soccer team knows one of their strengths is in net. Senior goalkeeper Toba Bolaji made fourteen saves through the first two games, a 2-0 loss to Cleveland State and 0-0 (2OT) draw to Canisius, to earn this year’s first Male Student-Athlete of the Week award.
“I felt we had a good weekend,” Bolaji said. “We got our nerves out and the second game went really well defensively. I really got to give credit to my defense.’’
The defense in front of Bolaji laid out for balls and blocked shots, but the Vaughn, Ontario native still made eight saves to complete his twelfth career shutout. An All-Northeast Conference (NEC) selection from a year ago, Bolaji credits his success to his teammates and is always putting the team’s needs and success before his own.
“Now we just got to transform those in to wins and it’s very possible we can do that.” Bolaji said.
This weekend the Colonials will hit the road and travel to Maryland to take on Navy and University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC).
“We’re getting our swagger back and we just need to continue to move forward.” Bolaji said. “I’m sure once we put one in we’ll get some wins on our side.”
