MOON TOWNSHIP — The Robert Morris men’s basketball team (4-6) fell to the Siena Saints (4-6) by the score of 74-71. It was their third loss in a row. Here are the quick hits from the game, for the full recap click here.

Why it happened

Siena continued a 15-0 run into the second half that pulled them away from Robert Morris. Similar to the Drexel game, this was the changing moment in the game as RMU came back to tie things up at 32-32 after previously being down by 11. A big difference was the paint, as Koby Thomas was the only Colonial to grab a significant number of rebounds while Siena had multiple people grab multiple rebounds.

However, the Colonials began to come back midway through the second half. They were able to bring the lead within ten and later take the lead with under four minutes to go in the game. It was a strong effort by Robert Morris, but they couldn’t pull of the victory and fell 74-71.

What it means

It’s the third straight loss for the Colonials with all three coming against beatable opponents. It’s nonconference, so in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t hurt significantly, but they have now lost four in their last five games.

Who starred

The Colonials had multiple players star in this one. Charles Bain and Josh Williams played well again, but the unsung heroes of today’s game have to be Matty McConnell and Koby Thomas. McConnell was a big reason the team was able to come back, while Koby had a great game in the paint despite only ending with five points.

Who stumbled

Outside of Koby Thomas, the Colonials struggled in the paint. While they ended with more rebounds as a team, it took them midway through the second to have a second player with more than one.

Who was there

The crowd was loud again as the atmosphere switch has worked out well for the Colonials. As for the teams that were there, Siena is a comparable opponent to who the Colonials will face in conference play.

Who is next

The Colonials next opponent will be at Rider (2-2) who played today against Hofstra (6-3). That game is on Saturday the 15th at 3:00 p.m.
