Brittany Howard named CHA player of the year for second straight season
March 1, 2018
Robert Morris women’s hockey was recognized for their dominance on the ice this season as senior forward Brittany Howard was named CHA player of the year for the second straight season.
The Dapper Dan Sportswoman of the year scored 23 goals and 23 assists for 46 points, making her the leading points scorer for the conference, only aiding her campaign to be named the best of the conference.
But Howard was not the only Colonial honored for their spectacular performances this season. Junior defenseman Kirsten Welsh was named defender of the year, goaltender Elijah Milne-Price was named to the all-conference first team and freshman Emily Curlett and Lexi Templeman were named to the CHA all-rookie team.
It was an emphatic way to end the season for Welsh, who recently became the all-time leading scorer among defensemen in the history of RMU with still one season left to play.
Milne-Price was absolutely on fire to end the season, putting up four shutouts in the final six games, breaking the records for most shutouts in a season and the longest period of time without letting up a goal while becoming the only Colonial to have two weekends of back-to-back shutouts.
Curlett and Templeman were essential additions to the team this season. Curlett finished third among CHA rookies with 17 points (7G-10A), while Templeman finished just ahead of Curlett in second with 19 points (9G-10A).
The Colonials wait for the finish of today’s CHA quarterfinals to determine who their opponent will be on Friday for the conference semifinals as RMU is just two wins away from another NCAA tournament appearance.
