Unanswered: Robert Morris skates to victory over Lindenwood

RMU skates on to victory with five unanswered goals against Lindenwood.

Robert Morris University played host to Lindenwood on Friday January 29, 2016 at the 84 Lumber Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. In a whopping 5-2 victory, the Colonials scored five unanswered goals to seal the deal.

Though Lindenwood scored two unanswered goals in the first period, the Colonials’ Sarah Quaranta opened up the scoring spree with a power play goal at the 16:39 mark in the first. The goal was assisted by Maggie LaGue and Amber Rennie.

The second period started off hard and strong, the Colonials quickly jumping on the puck. Defender Kirsten Welsh sent the Colonials’ second goal of the game flying past Lindenwood’s goaltender at 1:16 in the second. She was assisted by Katherine Murphy and Amber Rennie. The goal was scored at even strength.

Robert Morris then suffered an unfortunate penalty at 4:50 in the second, but were able to kill it off.

Maeve Garvey rounded out the period by scoring the Colonials’ third goal and capturing the lead. The goal was scored at even strength, and was assisted by Jessica Gazzola and Maggie LaGue.

Coming back after intermission, RMU went right back to work. Mackenzie Johnston scored at 10:00 in the third, with assists by Maeve Garvey and Jessica Gazzola, making the score 4-2. And Maeve Garvey scored yet again, this time unassisted, to put Robert Morris up 5-2.

Robert Morris will meet Lindenwood again on Saturday January 30, 2016, at 84 Lumber Arena.
