Graduate goalie Francis Boisvert shined in between the pipes in the opening game on Friday afternoon, saving 50 shots, 11 of them on the power play. He posted his first career shutout in the 2-0 over the Yellow Jackets. He became the fourth goaltender in Atlantic Hockey history to post a shutout while making 50 or more saves and the first Colonial since 2012 when Eric Levine saved 51 shots against Miami (Ohio) in the 2012 Three Rivers Classic.
Freshman forward Tanner Klimpke won his first Atlantic Hockey honor winning Rookie of the Week. Klimpke had a goal and an assist in Friday’s win. It was the Calgary native’s third multi-point game, improving on his already stellar season which includes leading the team in goals and assists.
The Colonials have a home-and-home series against in-state rival Mercyhurst coming up this weekend. The teams will play in Erie Friday night at 7 p.m. and then again at Clearview Arena Saturday at 7 p.m.
