Robert Morris men’s soccer has ample opportunity this weekend to make some noise in the coming weeks. With their match against Green Bay, the Colonials can leapfrog their opponents and go to fourth in the Horizon League table.
The game also presents the prospect of extending the Colonials’ unbeaten run, which is currently three (two draws and a win against Purdue Fort Wayne). This is their best run since they began their season with a five-game unbeaten streak.
So, what will they need to achieve these goals? Actual, physical goals.
Green Bay has only allowed eight goals this season, five in the conference. They just played a 12th-ranked and undefeated Northwestern side to a 0-0 draw. Robert Morris has shown they can be that high-powered offense; look no further than their performance against Purdue Fort Wayne. However, they must establish a more consistent level to capitalize on their opportunities this week.
On the other side of the ball, the Colonials must watch out for Green Bay’s sophomore forward, Chris Album. Album has 12 points on the season so far, scoring five times while collecting two assists. Even more impressive is that he has only played and started seven games, averaging a contribution a game.
Green Bay wrapped up a win against Northern Kentucky last Saturday, so that puts them level on points. They also have the same record as RMU, who drew with Wright State 1-1 on the same day.
This looks to be an exciting match for the Colonials, who take on powerhouse Wake Forest next week, a side quickly rising in the NCAA rankings.
