MOON TOWNSHIP– After losing earlier in the day, the Robert Morris Colonials (2-3) were looking to get their second win of the season against the Canisius Golden Griffins (2-2) in their second game of the day in the Chick-fil-A Robinson Labor Day Classic. 

The first set began evenly, with each team taking four of the first eight rallies. Ella Loussia would be up to serve, helping the Golden Griffins win four straight rallies. The rest of the set would feature both teams trading rallies. Ella Loussia for the Golden Griffins would come in to serve again and hit three straight rallies. This and her four kills would help the Golden Griffins take the set 25-23.

The second set would begin with the Colonials taking eight of the first ten rallies. The Colonials would continue to dominate, being the first team to reach double-digit points. Although the Golden Griffins would give the Colonials a run for their money, the Colonials would be up to the challenge rolling off five straight rallies and then four straight to reach twenty before the Golden Griffins even get 10. The Colonials would take the second set 25-12

The domination for the Colonials would trickle into the third set, with the team taking the first four rallies. The Golden Griffins would storm back to tie the game twice before both sides would continue to trade rallies. After looking even the whole set, the Golden Griffins would jump up 19-14 over the Colonials. After being down most of the game, the Colonials worked together to get the game back tied at 23 a piece, eventually winning the third set 25-23 

Head coach Danny Doherty emphasized that the Colonials’ strategy is to achieve small goals in every game.

 “It’s about setting the small goals and making sure that those small goals are achievable. You don’t wanna push them too much because then you get too far advanced or too far in the past.” 

Once again, the Colonials would take the first four rallies over the Golden Griffins. The fourth set would play out similar to the third, but in this set, the Colonials would maintain a lead for the rest of the game-winning, 25-16, winning their second game of the season.
