Horizon League Men’s Basketball Conference Schedule Revealed
August 16, 2022
The Horizon League revealed its 2022-23 men’s basketball conference schedule on Tuesday which includes 20 league games that will begin on Dec. 1.
Robert Morris University looks to rebound from a rough 2021-22 season where they finished 8-24 overall and 5-16 in Horizon League play before defeating Youngstown State on the road in the first round of the Horizon League tournament.
The Colonials have a rough stretch of games to kick off their conference slate as they take on the top four teams in the conference from a year ago. After traveling to Dayton to face the Flyers on Nov. 19, the Colonials will return to the gem city to take on the defending Horizon League Tournament Champions Wright State to open up Horizon League play.
After their bout with Wright State, they then face off against Northern Kentucky before finishing out the rest of their non-conference slate and starting the bulk of league play.
RMU will begin the second stint of league games as they host Purdue Fort Wayne on Dec. 29. The Mastodons had the Colonials number last year as they picked up the season series sweep against them. They then will set their sights on a New Year’s Eve showdown with the Horizon League regular season champion Cleveland State Vikings at the UPMC Events Center.
The Colonials first game of 2023 will be against Youngstown State as they will make the quick trip down Interstate 376 and across the border into Ohio.
After that, the team heads back home to take on IUPUI before embarking on a four-game road swing as they take on Oakland on Jan. 12, Detroit Mercy on Jan. 14, Milwaukee on Jan. 19, and Green Bay on Jan. 21.
After returning from the long road trip, the Colonials will open up a four-game homestand against Detroit Mercy, Oakland, Northern Kentucky, and Wright State.
Head coach Andy Toole’s squad will then travel to Cleveland State on Feb. 10 and then Purdue Fort Wayne on Feb. 12 before closing out their home Horizon League slate with games against Milwaukee on Feb. 18 and Youngstown State on Feb. 21.
Following the game against the Pens, Robert Morris will travel to Indianapolis to take on IUPUI in the final game of the regular season.
With four out of the five starters returning from last year’s squad, it will be interesting to see how this Colonial team will perform after struggling in their first two seasons in the new conference.
