The signings continue to pile up for Robert Morris football as senior defensive back Mason Gray officially committed to RMU after transferring from the University of Albany.

The decision for Gray to transfer came after missing his senior season at Albany due to a shoulder injury which required offseason surgery. Gray was redshirted from the Great Danes in order to keep his final season of eligibility, which he will use at Robert Morris.

Gray brings some much needed speed and firepower to a Colonials defense which ranked at the bottom in almost every category in the Northeast Conference.

In 2017, Gray was one of Albany’s starting safeties, having at least five tackles in 10 games, totaling 71 tackles, which ranked third on the team, and 3 passes defended.

In 2016, Gray was also a full season starter after starting in two games and playing in all 11 games of his freshman season. Gray finished with 64 tackles in 2016, just short of his 2017 total.

During all the successes of Gray’s first three seasons at Albany, he played under the direction of current RMU head coach and then Albany associate head coach and defensive coordinator Bernard Clark. Clark will certainly hope to recreate the success he had with Gray during his time in upstate New York.

The signing was officially announced by Robert Morris football on twitter Friday night. The night before, Gray went on to twitter to hint at the big signing simply by saying “Committed”.
