MOON TOWNSHIP — After missing the past three games, a team official confirmed Saturday that sophomore guard Megan Callahan will miss the rest of the season for Robert Morris women’s basketball.

During her freshman year, Callahan started in 32 of the Colonials’ 33 games, led the team in minutes with 30.2 per game and was third on the team in both scoring and assists. After finishing her first season as a two-time NEC rookie of the week honoree, Callahan entered the 2018-19 season ranked sixth-all-time at RMU in three-point percentage.

Her loss for the rest of this young season results in about 20 minutes per game and a key starter on the team which Robert Morris head coach Charlie Buscaglia will have to replace right at the start of the conference season.

“It’s going to expose if we are ready to come up and step up and just continue with hands wide open and a full heart that’s what I always say,” said RMU head coach Charlie Buscaglia when asked about the impact of Callahan’s absence. “If somebody goes down, then the next needs to step up. And that could be the whole bench or somebody that’s on the floor that needs to step up their leadership more.”

On Dec. 10, Callahan had posted on Twitter “Minor setback to a major comeback” and since that tweet has just played four minutes in a brief appearance against Pitt-Johnstown on Dec. 15.

Before the game against Pitt-Johnstown, Callahan had picked up right where she had left off last season as she started all eight of the Colonials’ previous games while averaging 8.8 points, 1.5 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game.

“There’s no time to hang our head to think about all the things that we don’t have. We need to focus on the things we do have.” said coach Buscaglia.

Since Callahan’s departure, the Colonials have amounted a record of 2-1 including their first conference win against Mount St. Mary’s in a 70-58 victory. Robert Morris will attempt to go 2-0 in conference play without Callahan on Monday against Fairleigh Dickinson.
