PITTSBURGH — The Robert Morris Colonials (8-10-1, 7-6-1 AHA) fell to the Brown University Bears (4-7-3, 2-4-3 ECAC) by the score of 7-4 in the second game of day one of the the Three Rivers Classic in Cranberry, Pa. at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

The first period saw Robert Morris come out flying and rack up 15 shots. Two of those 15 shots happened to be fired off by Grant Hebert, who scored two in the first. Both came from in front of the net.

The second period however saw a turn of the tides as Brown scored four unanswered goals, and held the Colonials to seven shots in the twenty minute frame. The Bears came out of the first intermission with a fire like no other, as they beat the Colonials in every aspect of the game. Brown held the lead going into the second intermission up 4-2.

Before the third period could start, everyone in attendance was left in the dark for about 10 seconds after a short power outage but only for less than a half a minute with no damage done to any electrical work in the building. Just a couple of mic and audio checks needed to wrap up the Three Rivers Classic day one action.

The third period saw much of the same with none other than Grant Hebert who notched his third of the game. As the lead became smaller, the Bears looked for any way to stop the Colonials’ momentum, and then they were awarded a power play. The Bears scored to make it a two goal game again at 5-3. The goal was reviewed for a while but the goal stood regardless.

The reviews would not end there as shortly after the Colonials would have a goal from Nick Lalonde reviewed and reversed for a high stick. The Colonials were able to mount some offensive pressure that led to a shot from the high slot which hit the Brown goalie up high and bounced to the right of the net mouth. Dropping down from his defensive position was Eric Israel to bang home the rebound to keep it close late at 5-4.

This wouldn’t last long though because a quick transition play and a fallen Colonial defenseman had the Bears coming down in a two on one as they fired the puck into the back of the net to keep the lead at two goals. A quick empty netter would be all she wrote as the Colonials lost by the score of 7-4.

“At the end of the day, we just dug ourselves too big a hole in the second period,” said Colonials Head Coach Derek Schooley.

“We’re still a young team, we still have to keep our focus for sixty minutes and right now we are a thirty-five, forty minute team, and if we can turn it around, you saw a glimpse of what we can do towards the end” said Schooley.

The Colonials will play on Saturday at 5 P.M. against No. 1 St. Cloud State for third place in this year’s Three Rivers Classic.

“I think that’s the nature of sports, you got to be able to bounce back,” said Schooley on playing the No. 1 team in the country.

“They’ve got a little bit more of a rest on us… We’ve got to be ready to go,” said Schooley.
