Softball team adds four new players

MOON TOWNSHIP — The Robert Morris University softball team has added four fall signees to their 2019 class. Three of the signees are from Pennsylvania, while the fourth signee is from Washington. The names of the signees are Ariana Garroway from Ellwood, Danielle Jason coming from Mid Valley, Antonia Schaefer who is coming from North Catholic, and the player comes from Washington is Rachael Rhinehart. This comes as the team transitions from the command of head coach Craig Coleman to interim head coach Jexx Varner, who was an assistant for several seasons.
Garroway is a catcher who in 2017 was Beaver County Times Player of the Year plus helped her team win the 2017 and 2018 WPIAL Championships. Last spring, she had a batting average of .352 and drove in 25 runs with two home runs. She will bring depth for hitters and on the field playing defense.
Jason is a utility player who hit a combined .444 batting average in her 2017 and 2018 seasons. Last spring, she had 29 hits with five doubles, a triple, and two home runs in 65 at bats. In 2017 she had a batting average of .443 with 19 runs batted in, accompanied with a double and three triples. She will add a spark but also raw and explosive talent to the team that as they look to improve their offensive numbers from last season.
Rhinehart is lefty pitcher who team to the KingCo and won a regular season championship with a 15-1 record before the team advanced onto the semifinals and overall went 18-3 that season. She will added to the ever growing list of lefty-pitchers in the circle for the Colonials. In having played for one of the best teams in the country, she brings in a new look for the team and the accuracy and command to come with it.
Schaefer is a utility player who was named First Team All-Section as a catcher. Her team went 15-4 overall last season which included a 10-0 record in section play. Her team won eight straight games and won its final seven regular season games in which they beat Our Lady of Sacred heart 15 to 0 in the playoffs. Coaches praise her for her grit and quality defense and willingness to play anywhere on the field.
The Colonials open the 2018-2019 season on Feb. 15 as they travel to Farmville, Va., for the Longwood Tournament.
