Weekend Round-up: 11/2/18 – 11/4/18

In case you didn’t follow what happened with the away RMU sports over the weekend, here is a quick round-up to bring you up to speed.
11/2/18:
Women’s Hockey: RMU – 3; RIT – 1
The RMU women’s hockey team (5-5-1, 3-1-1 CHA) had themselves quite a weekend as they won the first game of a two-game road set with the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers (1-5-3, 0-1-0 CHA). After the Tigers scored their lone goal of the game in the second period on a power play from Taylor Baker (with an assist from Ellie Larson and Logan Land) at 9:32, the Colonials took control of the game from there. The first two goals RMU scored came in the second period. The first goal was scored on a power play at 14:20 in the second period from Kirsten Welsh with an assist from Maggie Lague and Lexi Templeman. The second goal of the period was scored by Amber Rennie with an assist from Templeman and Emily Curlett, putting the Colonials up 2-1. The third goal RMU got came in the third period when Jaycee Gebhard scored with some help from Templeman. RMU was able to make quick work of RIT in the first game.
11/3/18:
Football: RMU – 7; Sacred Heart – 38
The struggles of Robert Morris football (2-7, 0-5 NEC) persisted on Saturday when the Colonials dropped a conference contest with the Sacred Heart University Pioneers (6-3, 4-0 NEC) by the final score of 38-7. The Pioneers ran away with this game from the very start of it when they scored 35 unanswered points. Three touchdowns came in the first quarter, and the other two came in the second quarter. The halftime score was 35-0 in favor of the Pioneers.
The third quarter is where RMU got their lone touchdown of the afternoon. Jordan Johnson had a one-yard run on second and goal for the Colonials to get the touchdown. The fourth quarter resulted in Sacred Heart scoring an additional field goal to the five touchdowns already gotten. SHU’s Noah Gettman made a 22-yard field goal after a drive that lasted six plays and went for 67-yards. RMU plays their last road game of the year at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.
Women’s Hockey: RMU – 3; RIT – 0
RMU (6-5-1, 4-1-1 CHA) shutout the Tigers (1-6-3, 0-2 CHA) in game two when the Colonials took the game with a 3-0 win. The Tigers and Colonials were quiet in the first period, but RMU got to work in the second period when Jaycee Gebhard scored the first goal of the period at 11:47 with the help of Caitlyn Kollman and Caitlyn Sadowy.
The last two RMU goals came in the third period when Anjelica Diffendal scored with some assistance from Lexi Templeman and Emilie Harley at 11:32. The final goal of the game was when Maggie Lague went up against the RIT goalie alone to secure the RMU win with three seconds left. RMU returns home to the Colonials Arena at the Island Sports Center to face the ninth and tenth nationally ranked Colgate University Raiders (6-4, 3-1 ECAC) on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:05 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 10 at 3:05 p.m.
11/4/18:
Rowing: Fourth at the Head of the Occoquan.
RMU finished fourth in the women’s varsity 8+ and the women’s varsity 4+ races in the Collegiate Varsity Rowing Race at the Head of the Occoquan over the weekend. The Colonials varsity 8+ finished with a time of 17:51.51 for the race. The varsity 4+ finished with a time of 19:43.79.
