Weekend Round-up: RMU women’s soccer falls short at Yale
September 17, 2018
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Robert Morris women’s soccer team (2-8-0) was held at bay against the Yale University Bulldogs (5-2-1) on Sunday afternoon as they lost 2-1 at Yale.
The defense wasn’t able to hold up early in the first half as the Bulldogs were able to score their two goals in the eighth and ninth minutes of the game.
The Colonials were outshot in the game 24-9, including 16-5 in the second half alone. It was RMU who would score in the second though, as Taylor Burkley scored her first career goal against Yale’s Brittany O’Connell in the 81st minute. Burkley was able to get the ball in the back of the net from the left side of the box, with this goal proving to be the only one RMU was able to secure.
Despite only losing 2-1, it was Yale who controlled the game from the beginning as, in addition to outshooting the Colonials 24-9, they generated seven corner kicks while only giving up two to the RMU in the first half. Furthermore, Lydia Shaw of Yale was the star of the match as she had 10 of Yale’s 24 shots.
The Colonials end their non-conference season with a 2-8 record. They return home to kick of NEC play this coming Friday, Sept. 21 to face the Wagner College Seahawks (1-7) at 3 p.m.
