RMU Men’s Hockey names assistant captains
September 15, 2014
The RMU Men’s Hockey team has officially named three assistant captains for the upcoming season. Seniors Scott Jacklin, David Rigatti, and redshirt junior Tyson Wilson will each be sporting an “A” on their sweaters.
The trio will help captain Cody Wydo lead the reigning Atlantic Hockey Association champions. The leaders are solidified, unlike last year when assistant captains were rotated for the first portion of the season.
Jacklin was integral in the team’s progression to the AHA championship final. In an overtime effort against Niagara, the British Columbia forward knocked in the goal that would secure a win for the squad. Along with that, he boasts 15 goals and 38 points total for the 2013-14 season.
Wilson paced all defensemen in terms of points and blocked shots, having 19 and 83, respectively.
One of two Pennsylvania natives on the roster, Rigatti notched three assists in AHA playoffs last season as a defenseman and has appeared in 79 career NCAA games.
After a rocky 2-12-2 start to last season, the team hopes for a consistent performance in the coming year.
“This group went through so much, both positive and negative, last year. We believe they will be able to draw from those experiences to lead this team in the right direction,” said 11-year head coach Derek Schooley.
The first puck will drop for the Colonials at the 84 Lumber Arena against Ryerson on October 4.
