Men’s hockey set to Krush Cancer
This Friday and Saturday, November 22 and 23, the Robert Morris University NCAA men’s hockey team will be hosting its Krush Cancer hockey weekend. The purpose of the weekend is to help raise awareness for men’s cancer and to also raise money for former captain Chris Kushneriuk.
Back in July, Kushneriuk beat his 13-month battle with Stage 4 testicular cancer, and still has an immensely high amount of medical bills to pay. Along with the efforts of the men’s hockey team this weekend, various Give Forward accounts have been created to help raise money for Kushneriuk.
For Kushneriuk, this is a welcomed surprise to have so many people donating to this cause.
“It feels great. I was really hoping that a few guys would get on board, but there’s over 30 accounts created for it,” said the former captain. “My family is certainly going to be really happy because they don’t really know what’s going on.”
As far as this weekend goes, fans will have the chance to purchase game-used memorabilia from teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins and RMU men’s hockey team along with the Krush Cancer t-shirts including a special shirt designed by Kushneriuk’s former teammate and current Colonial Andrew Blazek.
“Anything I’m able to do to help Kush is good for me and good for him,” said Blazek. “What I love to do is design, so I asked Coach Schooley if I could submit a design, and it’s what we ended up with.”
If you can’t make it out to the games this weekend, you can still donate to Kushneriuk by visiting https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/f1c3/krushcancer
