Robert Morris vs. Liberty preview

After dropping their season-opener,19-13, to Dayton the Colonial football team will continue their non-conference schedule Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. in Lynchburg, VA, when they travel to Williams Stadium to face #24 Liberty.

Last year, RMU stunned, the then ranked 15, Flames 30-23 in a thriller at Joe Walton Stadium. This year, Liberty is ranked just inside the Top 25 at 24 with a 43-21 loss last week to North Carolina State.

Lead by a potent offense that features seniors quarterback Mike Brown and wide receiver Chris Summers, the Flames will have revenge on their minds as they look to open a newly-renovated stadium with an early season win.

Coming off a disappointing loss, in which the RMU offensive line gave up eight sacks, the Colonials would like nothing better than to spoil the ruckus home-opener.

The question at running back was answered by freshmen Duane Mitchell and Justin Brooks who combined for 119 yards on 23 carries last week. The line will look to protect quarterback Jeff Sinclair against a Liberty defense that is lead upfront by defensive end Paco Varol.

On the flipside, the Colonial defense will look to keep in-check Brown who had 3,810 all-purpose yards a year ago. The task will be left up to defensive ends Steve Mitchell and Nolan Nearhoof. Mitchell registered a sack last week as safety D.J. Meyers led all tacklers with nine stops against the Flyers.

Despite the shaky pass protection, Sinclair managed to throw for 156 yards with 13 completions including five to senior tight end Shadrae King who collected 35 yards and now only needs four more receptions to set a new Colonial record.

With and 0-2 start at stake, RMU looks to break their three-game losing streak that dates back to last season.
