With the Robert Morris hockey programs gearing up for their return, RMU Athletics announced on Tuesday the teams will host a home doubleheader to kickstart the return of the men’s and women’s hockey programs in 2023.

On Oct. 7, the men’s hockey team will welcome Bowling Green to Clearview Arena, along with the women’s team hosting Saint Anslem for the first time in program history.

Bowling Green has been a frequent opponent on the men’s side for RMU, as it will mark the eighth all-time meeting. The last time the Colonials and Falcons met was during the COVID-19-impacted season. In both matchups, the Falcons were ranked as the Colonials dropped both games.

The ranked matchups have been a trend with these two teams as the Colonials knocked off the 20th-ranked Falcons at Clearview Arena during the 2018-19 season, 3-2. Years earlier in 2014-15, the No. 19 Colonials came back to force a 2-2 tie against the 13th-ranked Falcons in the program’s first-ever outdoor contest.

For the women’s team, the Colonials’ home opener against Saint Anslem out of the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance will have additional meaning as the Hawks are coached by RMU alum Jen Kindret.

Kindret appeared in 121 games while posting 29 points at RMU. The forward helped the Colonials clinch the program’s first-ever College Hockey America (CHA) postseason title in 2012. She also spent two years as the top assistant coach of the program, aiding the Colonials’ run to its second NCAA Tournament berth in 2021.

With the home opener opponents mapped out, the game times are still yet to be announced.
