Fans get the chance to “Skate with the Colonials”

Two times each season, fans of the Robert Morris University NCAA men’s hockey team get the chance to skate with the team that they cheer on week in and week out.

They get to skate on the same surface where the Colonials just completed their most recent game and interact with the players.

“It’s good to show appreciation to the fans and to give back to those that come to all of our games and are so loyal,” said sophomore forward, Scott Jacklin. “It’s important to make them want to come back and for us to get out in the community.”

“It’s nice to give back. The fans come and they support our team, so it’s the least that we can do,” said freshman defenseman, Chase Golightly. “It creates a nice connection so they can get to know the players.”

Despite a 4-1 loss against Atlantic Hockey Association foe, Air Force the Colonials still had a fun time interacting with the fans.

“It’s so early in the season, it was a close game and it’s a heartbreaker,” said Golightly. “But as long as they’re having fun they’re going to keep coming back and that’s what we want.”

“The kids forget about it as soon as the game is over, so you don’t really want to be negative out there,” added Jacklin.

For Golightly, this was his first “Skate with the Colonials” and he enjoyed his time interacting with the fans.

“I’ve had a lot of fun,” said Golightly. “I enjoy it, it’s nice to get out there and help the younger kids learn how to skate and get them involved in hockey, so overall I think it’s a good event.”

The Colonials next home games will be Friday Nov. 2 and Saturday Nov. 3 against Bentley with both games starting at 7:05.
