MOON TOWNSHIP– The women’s lacrosse team will be hosting the Kent State Golden Flashes (3-6, 2-2 MAC), as they look to continue their first-place season in the MAC.

Recapping the Colonials

The Colonials (8-2, 4-0) come to enter this matchup in first place in the MAC with an 8-2 overall record and a 4-0 conference record, and there is little doubt that they are the best team in the conference. They have handled their recent competition very well, as they head into their matchup against Kent State riding a three-game win streak, thanks to a 15-4 win over Akron, beating Central Michigan 12-7, and finally a 17-7 victory over Youngstown State. They have played well in their last few games, outscoring their opponents 44-18 during their winning streak.

Scouting Kent State

The Golden Flashes have not had the best season so far, however, they are third in MAC with a conference record of 2-2, so there is still room for improvement, especially with six games remaining in the season. In their last match-up with RMU, they were demolished 18-3 in the confines of Dix Stadium. In their last matchup, they fell to Central Michigan 21-14.

Players to Watch

Colleen Tifft (RMU) – Tifft is off to a good start with 12 points on the season thus far. Tifft has been able to set her teammates up for some good shots, which has allowed her to get eight assists during the year. If she continues this form, the Golden Flashes could be in for a long day.

Melanie Gandy (RMU) – Gandy has played exceptionally during the season, scoring 33 points, second on the roster. If she gets going in this one, she will be a huge help for the Colonials.

Madison Rapier (KSU) – Rapier leads the Golden Flash in points with 29, and while her team may not have a great record, she can get a lot of goals, as she netted 26 on the season. Kent State is going to need a few from Rapier if they are going to keep this one close.

Taylor Monturo (KSU) – Monturo is the starting goalie for Kent State, and while she has not had the best season, Kent State will need her to step up if they hope to pull off the upset. With a save percentage of .412, she will have to keep the Colonials off the boards if Kent State will win.

Score Prediction

I believe that the Colonials will be way too much for Kent State in this one, and they will cruise to a 17-4 victory, extending the win streak to four games.
