INDIANAPOLIS– The Colonials women’s lacrosse team (4-1) looks to continue their great start to the season this weekend and to do this, they will hit the road to Indianapolis to take on the Butler Bulldogs for the Bulldogs’ first game of the season. The Colonials are coming off of an 18-3 victory over the Kent State Golden Flash for their first MAC victory of the season and a non-conference loss to no. 4 Notre Dame.

Recapping RMU

The Colonials come into this one after their win the streak was snapped by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish yesterday 16-2. So far they have beaten Liberty, Fresno State, Gardner-Webb, and finally Kent State.

One thing that the Colonials do well is having great team defense. In 2021, RMU has only given up more than 10 goals twice. If they keep this up, the Colonials could be in for a big season.

Scouting Butler

The last time the Bulldogs took the field was against the Colonials on March 11 of last season. In that one, the Bulldogs lost 15-8. Butler had a solid abbreviated 2020 campaign, going 5-2, and held well at home when they went 3-0.

In all five wins, the Bulldogs were able to net over 14 goals. If that firepower is still there, the Bulldogs could win the Big East and prove to be a formidable foe for RMU.

Players to Watch

Mackenzie Gandy (RMU) – The all-time points leader in program history is having a great season. With 15 goals in four games, Gandy can score at will, and don’t forget about her strong passing as well as she is a dangerous player in all facets of the game.

Colonial assists numbers (RMU) – The Colonials are top five in the country when it comes to assists. They can move the ball around and make it hard to keep up with them and get it in the back of the net. If that happens, the Bulldogs could be in for a long day.

Ashley Steffes (BU) – Steffes played in all seven games for the Bulldogs in 2020. In these games, she netted five goals. If she gets going in this one the Bulldogs could win it, as the Colonials will have to look out for her.

Scoring (BU) – The Bulldogs recorded multiple blowouts in 2020. That is something that is going to be hard to keep up. If they continue the trend, the Colonials will have to prepare for a tough battle.

The Colonials are going to be too much for the Bulldogs, with Gandy at hand the Colonials will take this 14-10, and keep the momentum going when they visit Cincinnati on Wednesday.
