WASHINGTON, D.C.– Robert Morris softball (4-0) will be on the road again as they will have a four-game weekend series that will consist of two double-headers against Howard University (2-1) in the nation’s capital. The Bison already have had seven games that were either cancelled, postponed, or weather became a factor in the game not being played.

The Colonials have had a nice start to the season and continued their offensive attack as they swept North Carolina Central (0-10) in their four-game series. The Colonials so far have had a lot offense to go around as they have scored double digits in three-of-the-last-four games to start the season. They are 4-0 for the first time since the 2014 campaign.

Recapping the Colonials

The Colonials are on the right path to start off the season after going on the road and sweeping NC Central. They are returning to the road to take on a team that hasn’t played much to start off their season.

The Colonials had a great weekend series against NC Central as Dana Vatakis had a strong start to her campaign, picking up two wins in the weekend series. She has pitched to a sparkling 2.00 ERA in two games as well. She will definitely pitch well for the Colonials and she will look to continue her strong start to the season. Also, the Colonials offense went all around the roster. Everyone on the team was firing on all cylinders, scoring 34 runs in four games.

Scouting the Bison

The Bison are off to a 2-1 start this season. However, they have had seven games that were either cancelled, postponed, or weather was a factor in cancelling their game. The Bison really don’t have that many games under their belt and they have had a long break as well. That being said, don’t overlook this team. The Bison are led by Natalie Davila who plays first and third base. She is currently hitting .571 with one home run and six RBI leading the offense for this team. However, the Bison really don’t have a great pitching staff. That is their biggest weak point.

Players to Watch:

Dana Vatakis (RMU) – Vatakis is off to a hot start to her 2021 campaign and will certainly start again for the Colonials. She is off to a 2-0 start as a starter and Bison hitters better be careful of her rise ball and her drop curve as they are absolutely deadly. The Bison will have a tough time facing Vatakis.

Alania York (RMU) – With all the offensive prowess the Colonials have had, the only true senior in York has been at the forefront. It was hard to choose just one Colonial for players to watch, but York is a talent across the board. She is a great defender on the field and swings a hot bat for the team. She currently leads the team in RBI with four and in hits with six.

Natalie Davila (HU) – Natalie is the best player on this team. She really knows how to put the bat on the ball. She is dangerous on every pitch and you don’t want to leave it down the middle with her.

Tracy Mosley (HU) – Tracy is by far the best pitcher on Howard’s staff. She has a 2.21 ERA in two appearances so far, coming off of a great start in her last outing as she went five innings and gave up no runs. She has a great fastball and that complemented with a changeup. She relies on movement to fool hitters.

I think the Colonials will sweep the Bison this weekend. The Bison look to be a really beatable team. Besides Mosley, they don’t have a pitching staff. The Colonials cannot overlook Howard but overall it should be an easy weekend for the Colonials. Again, I look for the Colonials to win every game this season and go 8-0 to start the season.
