On Tuesday morning, the Horizon League revealed its women’s basketball All-League honorees, and freshman forward Sol Castro was named to the All-Freshman Team.

In a down year for Colonials women’s basketball in their first Horizon League season, Castro proved to be a bright spot, leading RMU in scoring (9.9 PPG), rebounding (5.4 RPG), and minutes (28.5 MPG).

After averaging 6.1 points-per-game through the first eight games of the season, the Rio Colorado, Argentina native had her strongest performance of the season against Wright State, dropping 23 points and 11 rebounds in the team’s 50-43 victory over the Horizon League-leading Raiders on January 22.

That game was the first of back-to-back 20-point performances and her first of six consecutive double-digit point efforts. She won Horizon League Freshman of the Week for those efforts.

Overall on the season, Castro had nine double-digit point efforts and three double-doubles. Castro shot 45.7-percent from the field on the season.

Women’s basketball will travel to Northern Kentucky for their first-round matchup in the Horizon League playoffs on Thursday at 7 p.m.
