GREEN BAY, Wis.– The Robert Morris men’s soccer team (0-2, 0-2 Horizon) will take a trip up to Wisconsin to take on Green Bay (1-0, 1-0) in a Horizon league battle that will not disappoint. Green Bay hasn’t played in a little over two weeks since their last game was canceled against IUPUI.

Green Bay is coming off their only game of the season which went to double-overtime, winning 2-1. For the Colonials, they are coming off a slow start to the season after dropping the first two games by the scores of 5-0 and 2-0. The Colonials, so far under a new coaching system, are still working out the kinks in the new system and are trending upwards in their games.

Recapping the Colonials

For Robert Morris, they are off to a rough start to the season in general. They have dropped the first two conference games in their schedule and they still have yet to crack the scoreboard in the early season. However, they are doing everything right on the attacking end and it could be just a matter of putting the ball in the back of the net.

The ball movement and set up plays for the attacking are working, it’s just a matter of finishing. The defense has improved from the first game as well. RMU was a more compact unit in the second game, not allowing anything through the middle. If they can put everything together, this Colonials team will be scary, it’s just a matter of time before all the facets of their game click.

Scouting Green Bay

Green Bay has played one game so far against Cleveland State and it took them two overtimes to get the win 2-1. Their next game scheduled against IUPUI was canceled. Green Bay hasn’t played a game in two weeks. Green Bay is led by their best striker Villi Kaldal, who scored and had an assist on the game-winning goal. He is a deadly player to watch and Colonials need to bottle him up in the middle of the field.

Players to Watch

Tom Akinola (RMU) – Akinola is a great striker for this team. He needs just one to go in and it should fuel more success. He’s got the speed and power on his shot that Green Bay needs to watch out for. Akinola can strike from all over the pitch. He is deadly inside and out.

Grant Glorioso (RMU) – Glorioso has had a rough start to the season, letting up seven goals in two games, however, he looked better in the second game only letting up two. Grant is a solid keeper and it’s tough to keep the game close when your team is not scoring. He likes to take a step forward with his play every game. He doesn’t let past tough goals get to him and he gets better as the game goes on. He is quick in net and is really in a good position every time he is in net.

Villi Kaldal (UWGB) – The Colonials need to have eyes on Kaldal at all times. One quick look away from him and he could make a team pay. He is quick and he is all over the place. Whether Kaldal is leading the attack or setting it up he needs to be marked at all times.

Jamison Yoder (UWGB) – Yoder is a solid keeper. He knows how to command his net and his defense communicates with him. Yoder owns the net for Green Bay and it will be interesting to see how the Colonials attack him. Yoder, however, doesn’t move that well in the net so if the Colonials can get Yoder moving they will find success.

This will be a tough game for the Colonials to win, however, I really think that they will be able to pick up their first win of the year. They have to be scrappy and they really need to dig deep to get that first win of the season. They need to play the Colonial way of soccer.

RMU needs to control the game and play at their pace and not let Green Bay control the game. It will be a tough game, but it will be a Colonials 3-2 win and they will break through the slow start they have.
