NEVILLE TWP, Pa.– The Robert Morris women’s hockey team (11-5-1, 11-5-1 CHA) is back in action after a few days off, as they will open a two-game series with Sacred Heart (1-5, 1-2 NEWHA) paying a visit to Neville Island for the first time in just over ten years on Saturday night, February 20 at 6:05 p.m. This will also be the first of two meetings for these teams this season, with game two coming on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.

Recapping RMU

RMU is riding a two-game win streak with the most recent win coming over RIT (1-12, 1-12 CHA) by a score of 5-3. Everything seems to be clicking for the Colonials at the moment.

It was a historic afternoon as defenders Anna Fairman and Allyson Hebert each scored their first career goals. RMU had to hold off a late push from the Tigers, and managed to do just that. RIT scored with 2:13 remaining in the game to cut the deficit to one, but RMU’s Maggy Burbidge buried an empty-net goal to seal the deal for the Colonials.

Scouting Sacred Heart:

The Pioneers come into this one after falling to LIU 3-1 on Tuesday, but were victorious against them last week 3-1. The struggles on the offensive end of the ice continued, with opponents outscoring them 31-5 this year. The lone goal for Sacred Heart was scored by Nicole Guidi at the 13:35 mark in the second period of their most recent matchup with LIU.

Players to Watch

Gillian Thompson (RMU) – Thompson was having a quiet season so far but recently has seemed to have the hot hand. She recorded three goals in the last four games for the Colonials so look for her to be active on the scoresheet yet again. She will be huge in helping this team gain momentum as the end of the regular season draws nearer.

Raygan Kirk (RMU) – The Colonial netminder is coming off her last game stopping 20 of 22 shots against Mercyhurst. With Sacred Heart having some offensive struggles this season, Kirk can play a big part in keeping them off the board.

Paige McNeil (SHU) – McNeil has been active recently for Sacred Heart. In the last two games against LIU, she scored two goals and picked up an assist. The Colonials should pay extra attention to her in the upcoming series.

Frankie Sanchez (SHU) – Goaltender Frankie Sanchez has been good for Sacred these in their last two games. In the recent matchup against LIU, she stopped 37 of 40 shots. If Sacred Heart can limit the number of shots on net for Robert Morris, Sanchez could be the difference-maker in this one.

The Colonials will ride the momentum from the recent wins against Mercyhurst and RIT. Robert Morris will have little trouble in game one, taking it by a score of 4-1.

Sacred Heart will make some adjustments for game two to tighten the margin, but the Colonials will still prevail 3-2 to take the series.
