DURHAM, N.C.– The Robert Morris men’s lacrosse team begins their season in Durham as they take on the no. 1 Duke Blue Devils, their first of four ranked opponents. The Blue Devils come into this matchup as number one in the country.

Recapping RMU

The Colonials came into this season after last season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last season, they went 4-2 and didn’t get to play in-conference. The last time we saw the Colonials was against Marquette. In that game, they defeated the Golden Eagles on March 11, a game they won 11-10.

Scouting Duke

The Blue Devils came into this season after a 6-2 campaign last year. Many experts believe that Duke could win it all this year and after their first game of the season Denver, a game they narrowly won 12-10 at Koskinen Stadium, they turn their attention to the Colonials.

Players to Watch

Ryan Smith (RMU) – Smith had a big season last year, scoring 28 points in six games. He was able to really make an impact with his time with the Colonials. He did so well in fact that he went third overall in the 2020 NLL Entry Draft to the Rochester Knighthawks. If he has a big game, don’t be surprised if the Colonials pull off the upset.

Grant Koopman (RMU) – In his short time at RMU Koopman has played well. Last year in the four games he played, he posted a 3-0 record and a .435 save percentage. If the Colonials are going to pull off the upset Koopman is going to have to keep the goal clean.

Mike Alder (Duke) – Alder is in his first season at Duke. He transferred from Saint Joseph’s for his fifth year of eligibility due to the cancellation of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is a fifth-year senior who ranked fourth all-time in career save percentage at SJU, recording a .569 save percentage. If RMU is going to win they are going to have to get past him.

Cameron Badour (Duke) – Badour has had a solid career at Duke. Last year he recorded eight goals and seven assists for 15 points to rank fifth on the team in scoring. The Colonials are going to have to stop him to get the win.

Unfortunately, the Blue Devils are going to take this one 12-10 as they just have too much firepower to be slowed down, and the Colonials will start the season 0-1.
