Women’s hockey announces 2020-21 schedule

After scheduling announcements last week from men’s and women’s basketball as well as men’s hockey, Robert Morris women’s hockey has announced their schedule for the 2020-21 season. The announcement was made on Monday morning by head coach Paul Colontino. Women’s hockey will play 20 games, all within the College Hockey America (CHA) conference due to the continued concerns of COVID-19. The CHA has five teams, meaning RMU will be facing the same opponents four times in the regular season alone.

The Colonials will play half of their games on the road and half at home in the newly named Clearview Arena at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island. The weekend of November 20th will mark the first matchup for the Colonials against Penn State before having a home-and-home battle with I-79-rival Mercyhurst the weekend after.

Travel concerns have been an issue when considering the ongoing pandemic, and this season RMU’s schedule has limited the team to only three overnight trips. St. Charles, Missouri will mark the furthest Robert Morris will travel in the regular season as they will face the Lindenwood Lions the weekend of December 4th.

Usually, in a normal season, CHA play starts at the beginning of November with non-conference play dispersed into the schedule to get more games in. Including all tournaments and playoff games, Robert Morris played 36 games last season. Due to the pandemic, this year’s regular-season will only be within the CHA, thus limiting the game count to 20.

Details on fan and media participation in these games are still yet to be revealed. The CHA playoffs are also not set in stone as the league could potentially adjust the format.
