The Horizon League officially announced their 2020-21 men’s basketball preseason poll Thursday afternoon, and the Colonials are already viewed in a positive light by their new conference.

Despite never playing a game in the newly joined league, Robert Morris was ranked 4th in the poll out of the conference’s 12 eligible teams. The results are determined by an accumulation of votes cast by league head coaches, sports information directors (SID’s), and select media members.

Claiming the top spot in the preseason poll for the third consecutive season is Wright State, who is looking to build off of their first outright regular-season conference championship in program history last year and received 517 total votes entering this year.

The Raiders claimed 37 of 44 total first-place votes and are lead by preseason player of the year Loudon Love. Love, a redshirt senior center, was crowned the 2019-20 Horizon League Player of the Year after averaging 15.9 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game as well, looking to build off of his physical play as he sits just 26 rebounds away from the program’s record.

RMU, meanwhile, received 345 total votes sit behind No. 2 Youngstown State and No. 3 Northern Kentucky in their quest to dethrone Wright State.

Robert Morris will return three starters from last season’s squad. Guards Jon Williams and Dante Treacy join forward AJ Bramah as key players to watch if the Colonials will contend in their first Horizon League action. Bramah was named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team as well.

The Colonials are scheduled to take on Point Park at home on November 25 in the program’s first contest since defeating St. Francis in the NEC championship game on March 10. Robert Morris will host Cleveland State for a pair of games for RMU’s first-ever Horizon League matchups on December 19-20.
