Volleyball remains perfect in the NEC

MOON TOWNSHIP– Tonight marked the 41st meeting between the Robert Morris (15-3, 5-0 NEC) and Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (1-18, 0-5 NEC) volleyball teams. RMU has had the advantage against the Knights as this win tonight marks their 11th straight win against Fairleigh Dickinson. Their all-time record goes to 34-7 against the Knights as well following this impressive showing.

RMU dominated the Knights in this match, winning in three straight sets. The scores of the sets were 25-8 in the first, 25-11 in the second and 25-9.

“I told the girls to keep their focus in this match, I didn’t want them to lose sight of being 6-0, I said that in order to be 6-0 we need to get to 5-0 first,” said coach Starr.

“We wanted to win this game and we did, we got the job done,” said Emma Granger. The Colonials absolutely dominated in all three of the sets, only allowing FDU to reach double digits in one set.

RMU went on a 21-6 run to close out the first set. Alyssa Hudak led the way in the first set with three kills. “I had fun out there tonight and I can’t wait to play tomorrow against LIU,” she said. “Tonight we really had to focus on the task at hand and play our style of volleyball…We need to control how we play and we need to be aggressive when needed and be defensive when we need to.”

The second set was more of the same as Colonials, as they played their brand of volleyball. FDU, however, would no lett RMU off the hook that easily as they came back with a 3-1 run of their own to make it a 7-5 game in favor of RMU. The Colonials had enough as they went on a 13-4 run to put them ahead 20-9. The Colonials would have no trouble at all finishing up the set, as they won it 25-11.

RMU jumped out to a dominant lead in the third set as well. Emma Granger had her third ace of the night in the third set, leaving her just nine aces away from holding the RMU volleyball record for aces.

“I played well tonight but I could not have done it without my team,” Granger added. “I just play each game as I normally do and just do what is asked of me.”

All in all, it was a tremendous performance by the Colonials but on the 12th, they face their toughest NEC opponent yet, LIU (5-11, 4-0 NEC).
