Softball: Miami Invitational

Mar. 12

RMU 6 (9-10), Detroit 3 (1-14): The Colonials opened their play in the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio Thursday night with a 14 hit victory against Detroit. Fourteen hits is the most the Colonials have had in a game dating back to 2013. Kristen Gabled and Jordan Gurganus led the team in hits with three each. RMU got off to a fast start as Stacey Capp brought home the first run of the game via a single in her first at bat. Robert Morris went on to score three more runs in the third inning, and tacked on two more in the fourth inning to get out to a six run lead. Detroit tried to battle back receiving two runs in the fourth inning as well as one in the sixth but starting pitcher Nicole Slieth was able to keep Detroit in check and pick up her sixth win of the season. In the win, Sleith gave up three earned runs while striking out nine batters.
