ORIGINAL STORY:

Following the RMU men’s basketball team’s playoff victory on Saturday over the Bryant Bulldogs, Stephan Bennett, junior-forward, was arrested over the weekend in the South Side. According to KDKA-TV, Bennett was apprehended early-Sunday morning near Mario’s bar.

Pittsburgh police were called to the scene to help control the crowd there. In the process, Bennett’s girlfriend was taken into custody. Bennett lunged at an officer and pushed him to try and escape.

Officers were forced to use a “leg sweep maneuver” to get Bennett to the ground.

KDKA is reporting that Bennett was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, failure to disperse and public drunkenness.

At this time, RMU officials have not commented on the situation, as well as Bennett’s status for tomorrow night’s NEC championship game at Saint Francis Brooklyn. Bennett played 22 minutes against Bryant on Saturday and scored four points, while accruing three rebounds.
