RMU vs Saint Francis football preview

It’s Homecoming Week and the highlight of the weekend will be the Saturday night, yes night, game at Joe Walton Stadium.  This week the Colonials will take on in-state rival Saint Francis (1-4) for the first game under the lights at 7 p.m.

Last week RMU captured their first victory of the season, defeating Monmouth 23-20. The Colonial offense looked impressive as quarterback Jeff Sinclair had his best performance of the year going 18-for-24 for 211 yards and two touchdowns. On the receiving end of both Sinclair’s scoring strikes was tight end Shadrae King who caught the game-winning 21-yard touchdown with 5:15 remaining in the game.

SFU brings a formidable rushing attack to the table led by running back Kyle Harbridge. Harbridge was held to only 36 yards last week against Albany, but quarterback John Kelly picked up the slack with 108 of his own.

The Penn State-transfer won the starting job as a freshman and finished last season with 1,314 yards. Kelly’s favorite target has been Jeff Wasilewski who had a 16-yard touchdown is last week’s 41-20.

The Colonial defense had a stellar game in New Jersey, picking off two Kyle Frazier passes to help RMU get their first win in their Northeast Conference (NEC) opener. Alex Tarr and Cameron Chadwick both had picks, returning them 30-plus yards to set up the Colonial offense.

The Colonials look to get their second win in NEC play and defend their title in front of what should be a sold out crowd at the Joe Saturday night. The night’s festivities start off with a Scott Blasey concert in Tailgate Alley at 5 p.m. followed by the first ever night game in stadium history. The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime of the game.
